List Building

How to build an effective Squeeze page

Having a Squeeze page is a very effective technique that internet marketers use to attract customers. The main purpose of a squeeze page is to collect email addresses. If you’ve been reading my blog recently, you know that I’ve been talking about how important it is to have a mailing list. The power is in the list, because of the relationships you are able to nurture with your subscribers. However, in order to build a list, it’s a great idea to have a squeeze page.

When we relaunched CaliStyle101, we knew that if we really wanted to increase our conversions (in other words, get MORE people to sign up), we needed to set up a squeeze page. Since doing that, we were able to triple our conversion rates because of how effective the squeeze page is.

What makes a Squeeze page so effective

website

Your Website

The typical website contains a number of links on the home page that point to different pages on the website. It allows someone to do browse the site and see the content of the site. A squeeze page is different because it has ONE goal, and that is to get email addresses. Everything on the page is centered around getting the visitor to take action by giving you their email address.

Because there is 1 definite goal, the conversion rates are increased significantly. The prospect comes to your website, reads the content, looks at the images (maybe also some video) and they all lead to ONE OUTCOME – submitting their email address. The prospect wants to know more about what you are offering and BAM, email address submitted.

Making your Copy Compelling

Content is King

Content is King

When it comes to squeeze pages, your copy (the words you write) are the most important factor (even above the design). When writing your copy, ask yourself the following question – “What problem are you trying to fix?” Make sure that when someone reads your copy, they get a clear picture of what solution you are offering. You don’t have to include all of the details, but you want to include enough to make them curious as to what is on the other side.

This aspect of the Squeeze page is so important that a good copywriter can easily charge thousands of dollars to write effective copy for you. However, you can get a pretty good idea of what elements need to be included by just looking around at effective squeeze pages and getting your ideas from them. Depending on the project, it can be very beneficial to hire a copywriter.

Adding Audio and Video to Spice it up

Video Rocks

When we were working on the CaliStyle101 Squeeze page, we decided to use video instead of a lot of text. This can also be an effective way of building a squeeze page, because it adds a personal element. People love online video. It’s the reason Youtube does so well. However, if you decide to use video or audio to add spice to your squeeze page, make sure to keep it very short and to the point. The window of opportunity for keeping someone’s attention online is becoming shorter and shorter.

Testimonials are always a plus

Has someone tried what your offering and had success? You should get them to write a testimonial for you. The easiest way to get testimonials is to ask for them. IF someone benefited from what you have to offer, then it should be quite easy to get them to write up a short testimonial, and this shows that real people are having success.

Give lots of value for free

One of the most effective way to build trust and a loyal following is by giving away a lot of value Free of Charge. This can be done by putting together a Free Report (like my Freebie Report), having a follow up sequence packed with quality content (like an e-course) or even having some simple video training on a concept that can help solve a problem. When I look at the people that I follow online, it’s not just because they are successful, but also because of how much value I’ve gotten from them by just being a part of their mailing lists.

When you give a lot of value for free, you are not only setting yourself up for success, but you are also helping others. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

ROBOTS!

Yes, I’m talking about the animated film robots. In the film, Rodney’s father served as a great encouragement to him with the following words – “See a need, fill a need”. If you can do that well and communicate HOW you are filling the need, there’s a significant amount of money to be made.

    Hi Leslie,

A very informative post. Videos can have a really MASSIVE effect on opt-ins, especially if the video is a must see e.g., video review of a hot high value product.
I'm sure my current/future followers will benefit from your freebie program :)

    Cheers,
    Noah

I agree with you Noah. I've seen some opt in pages with videos that when you finish watching them, you can't help but put in your name and email because you “HAVE TO” see what's on the other side. You are right on!!
